Prompt: What is your FAVORITE fairy tale? Why do you love it? Choose a fairy tale we have discussed during our unit study (visit the "unit wall" if you cannot remember all of them!). You have a chance to rewrite one fairy tale and make it your own. Retell this story and modify the characters, setting, or point of view of the story.
Use the following questions to help you prewrite:
Where would you set the story?
Who's perspective would you tell it from?
Would you change the situation or keep it the same?
*Keep in mind that you only want to change ONE of the 3 aspects.*
Using the graphic organizer provided, begin brainstorming your masterpiece.
After completing your Graphic Organizer, meet with your 3:00 partner to add or remove information to your Graphic Organizer and begin writing your first draft.
Your final draft will be published in one of the following ways:
PowerPoint
Prezi
Online Book
Voicethread
BE SURE TO:
Have a clear sequence of events, characters, and situation.
Use descriptive language
Use sensory details
Provide a conclusion
Objectives: W.5.3a: Orient the reader by establishing a situation and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally. W.5.3b: Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, description, and pacing to develop experiences and events or show the responses of characters to situations. W.5.3d: Use concrete words and phrases and sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely. W.5.3e: Provide a conclusion that follows from the narrated experiences or events. W.5.5:With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. W.5.6: With some guidance and support from adults, use technology, including the internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others, demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of two pages in a single sitting.
Reflection: I thoroughly enjoyed creating this Voicethread and using the new technology. I had never used Voicethread or anything like it before, so playing around with it was fun! I would definitely use Voicethread or something like it in my classroom. I believe students would enjoy creating a presentation in this manner rather than just a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation. Students would be able to be more creative and original using this technology and collaborating with others to put together an awesome Voicethread. I look forward to implementing this technology into my future lessons and projects.
